Mrs. Melissa Helsel
It was with great pleasure that I accepted the invitation to be the physical education teacher at St. Francis School. I have three children who attend school here; Mia, Eve and Wes. I graduated from Lock Haven University with a degree in Early Childhood Education while playing basketball for the university and studying abroad in Australia.
Physical education is so much more than just being athletic. I do not percieve Physical Education as organized recess. St. Francis children learn how to control their bodies during physical activities, how to utilize active recovery time, how to build not only muscles but also the confidence in our classmates. Being a good sport is just as important as being good at a sport, we applaud both equally! The children will learn how to be good teammates and how to work together. They will learn physical fitness is crucial for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, not just now but as they continue to grow older.
As a teacher and parent I am beyond grateful that our children have the pathway to grow into exceptional young adults with the guidance and support of our extended St. Francis Family. Thank you for the opportunity I get to challenge our kids to learn how to control both their body and mind through a variety of activities!
