Curriculum and the Arts

Curriculum

Our school curriculum aligns with diocesan and state guidelines and standards in all subject areas. Teachers are knowledgeable in their subjects and certified by the state of Pennsylvania. They continue their education through professional development courses, workshops, and attendance at national education conferences. Teachers use technology regularly in the classrooms to enhance learning and engage the students in their lessons. Regular classroom academics are enhanced with classes in art, music, physical education and technology.

Because all students learn at different levels, students in all grades are able to take remedial and enrichment courses as needed. These are offered on site through the Central Intermediate Unit or provided through Title 1 services.

Science & Technology

Today’s children learn much differently than the students of the past, and it is our job to educate them accordingly. Technology is an important tool that enables us to reach every student link slot gacor to ensure they are succeeding and understanding. All classrooms at St. Francis are equipped with SMARTboards. Every Preschool through grade 8 student has their own iPad or Chromebook to use during school, and the teachers use apps such as Nearpod and Kahoot to make their lessons engaging and meaningful for the students.

Our library media center includes a computer lab, and all students (K-8) attend Computer classes twice a week. (Preschool attends once per week.) During their Computer classes, the students learn how to create documents, presentations and other basic computer skills. They also learn valuable research skills and discern credible resources vs. unreliable sources. Digital citizenship and internet safety is covered with all age groups. Students are introduced to coding and use their skills to create and manipulate their own computer games.

The Arts

Music and Art classes are offered at St. Francis once or twice per week for all grades. The students’ art work is displayed throughout the school, and the musical talents of the entire school are showcased in our Christmas and Spring concerts. In addition, students may choose to learn to play an instrument and participate in Concert Band, County Band, and private instrumental lessons. Our middle school students may choose to be in our Mass Choir and lead the liturgical music at our weekly school Masses.

Each year, students in grades K-8 work together to create a class art project. These masterpieces are then auctioned off at our Fall Festival!
